Lewis Hamilton admitted that he regretted not accepting the invitation to participate in the film “Top Gun: Maverick”, sequel released in 2022. Despite being invited by Tom Cruise the pilot could not accept.
In an interview with GQ North American, the driver explained that, even before the idea for the film was born, he had already expressed interest in participating in the sequel in a conversation with the Hollywood actor. “I’ll even be a janitor – let me participate,” Hamilton asked at the time.
As soon as production became a reality, Tom Cruise contacted Lewis to invite him to play one of the drivers. However, the Mercedes athlete was competing for the title of 2018 Formula 1 .
“First of all, I didn't even take an acting class. And I didn’t want to be the one who disappoints in the film”, explained Lewis in the interview.
“Secondly, I didn't really have time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell Joe [Kosinski, diretor] and Tom, and it broke my heart. And then I regretted naturally, when they showed me the film and I thought: 'It could have been me! '”, he stated, adding that he still regrets it.
