LG Chem has developed new folding display technology using next generation materials. It is called the Real Folding Window and makes the screen surface as hard as glass and the folding parts flexible like plastic. In fact, the technology allows you to create foldable panels for smartphones and other devices with a single coating without additional PET film. This will make your displays thinner without losing their strength and flexibility.
Real Folding Window uses material only a few tens of micrometers thick. It is applied on a thin film, making the surface more heat-resistant, as well as providing better protection against mechanical stress. The company claims that the new material makes the fold virtually invisible, saving foldable smartphones from “chronic illness.” Compared to existing solutions, the new material has exactly the same hardness.
LG Chem says the screen is more competitively priced and is superior to existing polyimide film technology. Thanks to the increased flexibility, the properties of the panel are fully retained even when folded over 200,000 times. And not only inward, but also outward. The company promises to start mass production of such panels in 2022, with sales in 2023.
