LG Display develops 11″ and 12.9″ dual-stack OLED displays for future Apple iPads

In November 2021, preliminary information appeared that LG Display will develop a new display for Apple iPad tablets with a dual-stack OLED structure and control circuits manufactured using LTPO technology. It was then claimed that this display, which supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz, will appear in tablets in 2023 or 2024. Today, the source again reported this development.

LG Display develops 11″ and 12.9″ dual-stack OLED displays for future Apple iPads

According to new reports, the South Korean manufacturer is currently developing two models of OLED panels, which it intends to supply to Apple for use in future iPads. The first iPads with the new OLED panels are expected to arrive in 2024.

LG Display’s involvement in the development of two OLED panels for the iPad gives it an edge over Samsung Display in Apple’s supply chain for iPad panels.

LG Display is likely to do more OLED projects for the iPad as it has more experience in dual-stack OLED panels than Samsung Display. LG Display has been using this structure in OLED panels for automotive applications for many years, while Samsung Display has just started developing its own similar technology. A feature of the two-stack structure is the presence of two radiating layers. This doubles the brightness and quadruples the lifespan of panels with a single emitting layer.
