LG introduces ‘invisible’ immersive speakers in cars in 2023

LG, which quite often pleases high-tech fans with various innovations, yesterday, November 21, officially introduced its latest development called Thin Actuator Sound Solution. This is an advanced audio technology for cars, which, according to company representatives, should go to the first commercial products in the first half of 2023, ushering in a new era of infotainment systems for modern cars. And while no major manufacturer has yet announced their vehicle based on the new speakers, if you can call them that, the technology does look extremely interesting.

The main difference between the Thin Actuator Sound Solution and classic car speakers lies in the thin and light body, which does not stand out from the background of the general design language of the car’s interior. Modern car speakers (even the most expensive and premium ones) are too big and heavy due to their design features – the speaker contains a coil, cone and magnet, so they simply cannot be light. The Thin Actuator Sound Solution technology allows you to create incredibly thin and light “speakers” thanks to film excitation technology – the design does not require heavy components.

Accordingly, the new “speakers” vibrate from the panels of panels and various materials inside the car body, providing the owner with a rich three-dimensional sound with an immersive effect. Given that the new gadget has dimensions slightly larger than a passport with a thickness of 2.5 mm and a weight of only 40 grams, it can be integrated into literally any element of the vehicle interior. For example, in door cards, front panel, seat headrests or even the seats themselves, vehicle roof upholstery and so on. A manufacturer can create a rather complex soundstage by placing the speakers where they are supposed to be.

Specialists from LG believe that their latest development allows you to remove unnecessary elements from the cabin, freeing up space for the really necessary components, or simply visually increase the volume of the cabin. And, most importantly, the Thin Actuator Sound Solution does not affect the sound quality in any way – the new generation speakers are in no way inferior to the current bulky solutions. And the fact that the manufacturer does not use rare earth elements like neodymium in the production of innovative speakers only plays into the hands of potential partner companies – their vehicles will be cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
