LG introduces smart TV monitor, webOS and AirPlay

Yesterday, October 21, LG introduced the world to a rather interesting monitor that is capable of performing two functions at once – this is a monitor for work and a smart TV for viewing entertainment content. In certain scenarios, this is very convenient, because not all interiors have enough space to place both a monitor and a TV. At the same time, LG Smart Monitor (yes, in LG the monitor is called smart by analogy with TVs) with the 32SQ780S index boasts a 31.5-inch display, a built-in USB Type-C hub, the price is only $ 500 (for a 4K monitor, the cost is more than reasonable) and a special mount on the table with a height adjustment function.

But the main advantage of the LG Smart Monitor, of course, is the support for smart TV functions, which are realized thanks to the play of grace of the webOS operating system. Thanks to this, the monitor supports Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit technologies, can be used as an external monitor or a full-fledged TV without an additional signal source, and also gives the potential owner access to a sea of entertainment content – from applications to simple video games. For example, you can watch series and movies through streaming services like Netflix.

Moreover, it is very cool that the monitor on webOS boasts the GeForce Now application – with a gamepad, the user will be able to play modern video games on his monitor even without a gaming computer under the table. In fact, there are a lot of applications that will allow you to enjoy entertainment content on webOS, so the monitor can be used both for work and for leisure. At the same time, the characteristics allow you to get maximum comfort from the picture on the screen – the refresh rate is 65 Hz, the matrix is high-quality and bright, but there is no HDR.

But this monitor has plenty of ports for any scenario – there is USB Type-C for supplying 65 W power for a laptop, three USB Type-A 2.0 ports, even built-in Ethernet. Yes, the monitor does not have a built-in webcam or high-speed data ports, but the number of connectors allows you to connect an external webcam for video calls through the application built into webOS. Of the shortcomings, it is worth highlighting perhaps the fact that the manufacturer did not add the latest remote control to the kit – you will have to buy it separately.
