CES 2021 To Display LG’s New Bendable OLED Gaming Screens

The main purpose of this TV is to enjoy watching videos on a curved screen which is equipped with around 1000mm radius for improved gaming.

The difference between last year’s entertainment demo and this year’s 48inch 4K cinematic sound OLED has been highlighted. It has been noted that last year’s inflight entertainment demo was incorporated with a 65-inch display that could be changed into a curved mode, but the special feature of this year’s OLED is that it is incorporated with a 0.6mm thin film exciter and not the old 9mm, which is built underneath allowing the OLED panel to convert into a speaker.

To further add impressiveness to both video and gaming experience, the cinematic sound aspect turns the slim display into a slimmer TV and adds audio which is able to come directly from the screen.

Background

In 2013, Samsung was the first company to develop the curved OLED TV followed by LG in 2014. According to reports LG’s TV did not work and was taken down after 4 years.

New and Improved Features

The Korean company informed that this TV also supports refresh rate of 40Hz to 120Hz. It was added that other TV’s support refresh rate of 240-360Hz but are not able to easily transform the TV into a curved screen. The bendable display is expected to offer a 0.1 millisecond response time and retains all the features including inky black blacks, and an infinite contrast ratio. This structure is compatible enough to be used by next generation game consoles like X-Box Series X and PlayStation 5.

LG’s display emits low level of blue lights and have been legally certified for it. This is said to provide eye comfort so that gamers do not suffer with eye strains.

On the audio functions, the CSO technology enables the OLED panel to turn into a speaker which is similar to Sony’s Acoustic Surface technology. This permits the audio to be directly emitted from the screen while the vibrations remain unseen by the human eye.

LG’s First CSO Bendable Display

This is the world’s first 48-inch CSO bendable display that has been introduced by LG. While increasing the access view to users, it also claims to be very useful for gamers. The function of the display will not become low quality due to it’s bending capability.

The Executive Vice President and the Head of TV business unit at LG display, Dr. Chang Oh Ho, informed that this TV has been built to provide the best gaming experience for gamers. The virtual Consumer Electronics show 2021 has been chosen as the platform to showcase a variety of OLED rollable displays, and the transparent displays as well. Although, LG has not yet informed as to when this product will be available to users.
