Libya: Basaga says he will consolidate the government in Tripoli

Libyan Fati Basaga said he had made arrangements with security and military authorities for his new government base in Tripoli after parliament confirmed him as prime minister following a vote Tuesday.

Incumbent Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeiba has rejected a move by parliament to replace him, and armed groups allied with Dbeiba may oppose any attempt to oust Basaga in Tripoli.

“Our government has received a vote of confidence in a clear, transparent and public manner (…) in a democratic process,” Basaga said in a televised speech tonight. “I am not here to clear accounts (…) but to build the homeland. We extend a hand to everyone, even to our opponents,” he added.
