Libya: Gaddafi’s son will run in the elections – Court restores his candidacy

A Libyan court ruled on Thursday that the son of the late leader of the country Muammar Gaddafi he will be able to run for the presidency, it was announced by his lawyer.

The trial of his appeal Saif al-Islam Gaddafi against the rejection of his candidacy for elections on 24 December was delayed for days as fighters blocked the court, one of the incidents that could herald a wider election turmoil, AFP and Reuters reported.

Fears of derailment of the peace process

In another incident today, the election commission said that armed men stormed five polling stations centers in western Libya, stealing ballot papers, rebroadcasts the RES EIA.

Analysts fear that a questionable vote or a run-off election with clear violations could derailed the peace process, which this year led to the formation of a unity government, in an effort to bridge the gap between the warring eastern and western factions.

The final list of candidates for the elections not has been published, amid a chaotic appeal process, after the Electoral Commission initially ruled out 25 from 98 candidates who had stated their intention to run for the presidency.
