Libyan Foreign Minister Urges Tsavousoglu to Withdraw Occupation from Libya

Visit to Libya held a multi-member delegation of the Turkish government, headed by them Mevlüt Tsavousoglou and Hulusi Akar. The Turkish Foreign and Defense Ministers, respectively, met with their Libyan counterparts and discussed the cooperation between the two countries in various fields, while raising the issue of the Turkish-Libyan memorandum.

“Libya is a holy land for us. As Turkey, we have always embraced the principle of protecting Libya’s integrity, sovereignty, independence and political unity. We are always by the side of the Libyan people and its legitimate governments, during its difficult times. During the attacks in Tripoli, the legitimate government of Libya appealed for help in some countries. Only Turkey responded positively to this call. “The support we provided prevented the civil war, the fratricidal conflicts and the human tragedy,” Tsavousoglou said.

The Turkish Foreign Minister said that he discussed with his Libyan counterpart the issue of the Turkish-Libyan memorandum on the maritime borders of the two countries and the next steps they will take on it.

He also said that they discussed the economic cooperation between the two countries, Turkey’s investments in Libya and bilateral trade relations, while assessing the issue of the return of the Turkish private sector to Libya.

Libyan Foreign Minister Nila Mohamed el-Mangous has called for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country, including Turkish forces.

In a joint statement, the Libyan Foreign Minister said, according to the Libya Review: “We emphasize the important role of Turkey in ending the war and maintaining the ceasefire. We call on Turkey to take steps towards the full implementation of the conclusions of the Berlin Summit and the Security Council resolutions. “We call on Turkey to work with us to end the presence of foreign forces and mercenaries in Libya.”
