The members of the new interim government of its unity Libya were sworn in today before parliament in the eastern city of Tobruk.
The government, headed by the prime minister Abdel Hamid Mohammed Dbeiba aims to govern Libya until the long-awaited elections, scheduled for December 24th.
Parliament approved Dbeiba’s cabinet last week.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Parliament Speaker Angila Saleh said it was time to put an end to the controversy after years of division.
“It is time to shake hands, to forgive and to overcome our differences,” Saleh told lawmakers and the cabinet.
He advocated a comprehensive process of national reconciliation and the unification of state institutions, as the first steps towards reform and stability.
