The German supermarket giant is designing its own container shipping company.

After the UK and US supermarkets have set up their own shipping services, the German company Lidl seems ready to go one step further to overcome the problems in the supply chain and the high cost of container shipping. The plan is for the ships to have fallen into the sea by the middle of the year, according to German media.

As it became known, the company has already registered the name of the new shipping company “Tailwind Shipping Lines” with the main goal to cover a significant part of its needs in the global market.

The application has been submitted to the European Union Intellectual Property Office for purposes including the carriage of cargo ships, the delivery of goods and the dispatch of goods.

“The goal is to be able to manage the increased volume of different production facilities more flexibly in the long run,” said Wolf Tiedemann, head of logistics at VerkehrsRundschau.

During the global supply chain crisis, a number of well-known retailers, such as Ikea, Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, Starbucks and Coca-Cola, chartered direct ships to transport their products. reducing huge delays.

The huge need for additional capacity caused a large increase in freight rates for container vessels, making it more profitable to purchase a ship rather than charter it, thus reducing the waiting time for companies.
