Life expectancy at birth in Brazil was 76.4 years in 2023, according to data released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) and published this Friday (29) in the Official Gazette of the Union. There was an increase of 0 .9 years compared to 2022, when life expectancy was 75.5 years.
According to IBGE, the research provides estimates of life expectancy at exact ages up to 80 years old, with a reference date of July 1st, which allows knowledge about the levels and patterns of mortality in the Brazilian population.
Life expectancy is used to calculate the so-called social security factor for calculating the values related to the pensions of workers who are under the General Social Security Regime.
