The total number of BTC locked in Bitcoin’s Lightning Network scaling solution surpassed 3,400 for the first time. At the current exchange rate, this is about $141 million.
The rapid growth in Lightning Network capacity began in the first months of 2021 and continued until the end of November. During this time, the number of bitcoins in the solution channels increased from 1,050 BTC to 3,250 BTC. However, capacity growth has slowed significantly since November, and it took almost three months for the Lightning Network to reach 3,400 BTC.
At the same time, if assets are converted into US dollars, then the maximum amount of funds blocked in the Lightning Network was recorded in mid-November. The indicator reached $215 million. But now, although the number of BTC in the network channels continues to grow, due to the fall in the bitcoin rate, the amount of funds in USD is only $141 million.
Note that the Lightning Network continues to grow in the number of nodes. According to the portal Lookintobitcoin.com, on February 3, there were 20,369 of them. For the first time, the indicator crossed the mark of 20,000 nodes.
Recall that in September last year, the number of active channels in the Lightning Network reached 73,000.
