What was supposed to be a romantic moment became the record of a meteorological phenomenon on the main postcard of the 'wonderful city'.
The Christ the Redeemer monument was struck by lightning on Wednesday afternoon (21), and the moment was recorded by a couple who were making a video in front of the tourist attraction.
According to the sanctuary administration, no one was injured during the incident classified as “surprising”. It was also reported that “the place was quickly emptied”.
A publication on the site's official networks states that the rector of the Cristo Redentor Sanctuary, Father Omar, mobilized the technical maintenance team to repair the damage and breakdowns caused by the phenomenon, including the lighting system and electronic equipment.
In comments responding to the post, internet users reacted by questioning why the place was open on a closed day. According to Climatempo, the forecast for this afternoon was rain showers with thunderstorms in the capital of Rio.
