Even at the Google I / O 2022 conference, the developers promised to add the so-called immersive map view to Maps (at first for several cities). So far, this innovation has not appeared, but the first steps in this direction are already there: in Google Maps, it became possible to view photorealistic three-dimensional models of almost 100 of the most famous sights around the world.
According to Engadget, the new feature combines artificial intelligence with billions of images (including satellite imagery and the Street View catalog). With immersive viewing, the frames do not look static – traffic is displayed on the roads, the transfusion of the sun’s rays, realistic shadows, and so on. Something similar can be seen in photorealistic games of the past generation, such as GTA IV – the graphics are very similar.
To use the new feature, you need to update Google Maps to the latest version, find a popular point of interest, and go to the Photos section.
