Microsoft has unveiled the futuristic Microsoft Mesh service at the annual Ignite 2021 conference – a platform for communication and collaboration in mixed reality.
As the developers promise, the new solution from Microsoft creates a real sense of presence, blurring boundaries, and opens up new opportunities for collaboration and use in business:
For example, people have the impression that they are in the same room, even when they are on different continents. Users can interact with 3D content or with each other through Mesh-enabled apps on any platform or device. With the help of Mesh, you can organize the so-called “holoportation”, transferring a photorealistic image in mixed reality, as well as create virtual avatars with which you can express emotions. “
A basic use case for Mesh might be a collaborative virtual presence in a meeting room, for example, in Microsoft Teams. Microsoft hopes that the platform will also form the basis for the formation of an ecosystem of applications that will use this technology.
The Mesh platform will be available on a variety of devices, including the HoloLens 2 VR headset, as well as most VR headsets, tablets, smartphones and PCs.
A preview of the Microsoft Mesh app for HoloLens 2 is available now. In the future, Microsoft intends to integrate the Mesh platform with Microsoft Teams and Dynamics 365.
