Like today August 6: The first atomic bomb falls and Hiroshima disappears from the map

On August 6, 1945, at 8:15 in the morning, humanity experiences the darkest page of modern history. The American bomber “Enola Gay”, with pilot Paul Timbets, lets the first atomic bomb fall over Hiroshima. This bomb, code-named “Little Boy”, contained a celestial-235 and exploded at about 600 meters from the ground, releasing destructive energy equivalent to 15 kg TNT. In a matter of seconds, the peaceful city of 300,000 inhabitants turned into a burnt down. The heat and the shock wave disappeared buildings, people and a natural environment within a radius of 2 kilometers, while the fires that followed wrapped whatever was left – a total of more than 11 square kilometers of urban tissue were destroyed.
