In the early hours of July 17, 1918, an event that would forever changed Russian and world history unfolded in Gekaterinburg, in the Urals. Tsar Nikolaos II of Russia, Alexandra’s wife, their five children and four faithful servants were executed by the Bolsheviks, marking the tragic end of the Romanov dynasty after more than 300 years of uninterrupted kingdom. The path to that fateful night began with the February Revolution of 1917, which overthrew the Tsarist regime and forced Nikolaos to resign. The family was led to home restriction, while the civil war between the Bolsheviks and their opponents, the White Army, was creating an explosive political scene.
