Lil Nas X: The video clip with lap dance to Satan and the phrase in ancient Greek

A new video clip from the just 21-year-old queer has caused a sensation and reactions rapper Lil Nas X for his song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”. The video begins with images from the Garden of Eden, to be followed by the descent into Hell through a pole for striptease and follows a sensual striptease to Satan!

The pictures also show a tree, where the phrase in ancient Greek is engraved by the Plato of Symposium: “Ἐπειδὴ οὖν ἡ φύσις δίχα ἐτμήθη, ποθοῦν ἕκαστον τὸ ἥμισυ” (because nature separated the two, it seeks each part of its other half).

The phrase refers to an explanation of love, according to which “love stems from the fact that once people had bodies next to two faces and instead of two sexes there were three: men, women and androgynous, where they had a body man but also woman. Men originated in the sun, women in the earth and androgynes in the moon. These people, because of their great power, tried to conquer Olympus and the gods themselves. Zeus initially thought of lightning them but did not want the gods to lose the sacrifices they made to them, so he decided to cut them in two resulting in the separation of the two bodies. “Since then, people have been looking for their other half or essentially their match,” according to Wikipedia.

For the Rolling Stones magazine, the video clip is full of symbolism: As Lil Nas X put it in a press release, it is a nod to homophobes who accuse homosexuals of going to hell. It is also a message to those on the far right who accused the rapper in 2019 of Satanism.

The video closes with the rapper, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, stealing Satan’s horns and putting them on his head.

The release of the video came shortly after the announcement of the rapper’s collaboration with MSCHF, for the controversial shoes released and containing a drop of human blood on their soles, according to the NY Post. Nike sued because the shoes are based on a pair of their own, the Nike Air Max 97, and the giant never gave MSCHF permission to use them.

According to the New York Post, the video was also released at the same time as the publication of an open letter from Lil Nas X to his 14-year-old self.

“I wrote a piece with your name in it,” he begins. “I know we promised never to go out in public, I know we promised never to be ‘this’ kind of gay man, I know we promised to die in secret, but it will open the door for other queer people who just want to they exist “, he notes.

In the letter, he further encourages young queer people to “advance the agenda” of loving themselves and respecting each other’s choices, without others “interfering in their lives”.
