Lin-Manuel Miranda felt pressure writing the songs for “Mufasa”

Lin-Manuel Miranda 44, is a busy man, but also careful. The creator of “Hamilton” appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon this week, where Fallon mentioned that he and Miranda will be on Broadway together in “All In: Comedy About Love” which will mark the presenter’s Broadway debut.

Miranda has also been working on a concept album titled “Warriors ”, as well as original music for the film “Mufasa: The Lion King” which hits Brazilian cinemas on December 12th .

The first features some hip-hop legends including Nas, Lauryn Hill and Ghostface Killa while the second is a Disney production. That said, the composer said that he had to be careful not to cross the work flows.

“Whenever Mufasa started swearing, I thought, ‘That’s the wrong one,’” Miranda joked. “Actually, honestly, I think working on ‘Mufasa’ raised the bar for me because I knew I was entering the world of ‘The Lion King.’ That original album is an absolute success.”

Miranda spoke about the original album by “The Lion King” which only had a few songs, including “Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata.” He said he wanted to maintain the quality of the music.

“I went into every song on ‘Mufasa’ with that energy of, ‘This is an album no one is going to skip. [uma canção]'”, he said.

He also recalled his previous work for Disney and, in addition to the legacy of “The Lion King”, he explained how “Mufasa” differs from other projects.

“All the Disney characters I wrote for were very powerful heroines who didn’t need a man, but I managed to write it as a ballad,” he said.

“And then the other thing was, I remember reading online someone saying, ‘Lin doesn’t write villain songs.’ Like Michael Jordan, I took it personally. I wrote a villain song and Mads Mikkelson sings it because he is the big villain in the film, and he is scary”, said Miranda.
