Linda Evangelista “disfigured” by an aesthetic treatment: what is better to know first

In a post on his Instagram profile Linda Evangelista, among the top models who made us dream in the 90s, an iconic model of transformist beauty, she responded to the incessant request of her fans as to why she had left the scene in recent years. In the reunion wanted by Donatella Versace for the fashion show Spring Summer 2018, a living tribute to his brother Gianni, among the Nineties models who closed the curtain, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni and Helena Christensen, only she was missing, Linda Evangelista.

The legendary beauty told that unfortunately in the last five years she has developed the paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, or paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, following a cryolipolysis treatment, a rare side effect of a weight loss procedure using the benefits of the cold.

Linda Evangelista, 56, with this open-hearted statement, attributed her permanent deformity to the procedure, but not only that, she confessed to having suffered emotional damage that led her to live the last five years as a recluse.

According to reports from some foreign publications, Linda Evangelista allegedly filed a complaint with the Federal court in New York last Tuesday, declaring that between August 2015 and February 2016 she would have done the alternative treatment to liposuction to reshape some areas of the body and that was not aware of the possible side effects, including the possibility of developing theadipose hyperplasia paradossa o (PAH).

WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING A BEAUTY TREATMENT
«Relying on expert hands for each aesthetic procedure is good practice, there are many beauty operators, not doctors, who improvise in the field and offer aesthetic medicine treatments, considered less invasive. It is also important to expect the side effects to be clearly explained, usually reading and signing an informed consent, so you undergo procedures, even the most apparently harmless ones, with the awareness that complications can occur. The problem with aesthetic medicine, compared to surgery, is that the message is often passed that they are simple and routine treatments, especially in the case of the so-called puncture, trivializing the concept “, explained the Dr. Luciano Perrone, associate physician of AICPE (Italian Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) advocate of ethical cosmetic surgery and a discipline of the profession that can guarantee the real serenity and satisfaction of the client.

WHAT IS PARADOX ADIPOSE HYPERPLASIA
“In very rare cases, we speak of 1%, it can occur in the weeks following treatment, theparadoxical adipose hyperplasia or the increase in the volume of adipose cells in the parts of the body treated, that is, paradoxically, instead of losing weight, there is a hypertrophy of the fat. Cryolipolysis uses handpieces at controlled temperatures, from -5 to -8 degrees, to lead to the formation of ice crystals inside the fat cells which the body then disposes of. The procedure is performed with different machines of various companies and theadipose hyperplasia paradossa o (PAH) is an infrequent side effect that generally affects this type of treatment. Recent studies have found it to be more common in men. It is a very rare event, a marked and visible enlarged but painless mass forms. The reasons why it occurs are not yet understood, and it does not disappear on its own but requires subsequent surgical treatments, generally it is treated with liposuction, or other interventions such as abdominoplasty ».

«Cryolipolysis is not recommended for those with diabetes, for pacemaker wearers, for those suffering from globulinemia, or for those who are pregnant and breastfeeding or for those suffering from cold urticaria. However, it is not certain that if these conditions are present, side effects will arise ».
