Lindner: Ukraine will need international ‘Marshall Plan’

Ukraine will need an international “Marshall Plan”, similar to the one created by the US after World War II, to finance reconstruction after the end of the Russian invasion, according to German Finance Minister Kristen Lindner. Bloomberg agency.

“Our solidarity with our European neighbors is long-term and that is why we need an international Marshall Plan for Ukraine.” said Lindner in a speech to the lower house of the German parliament. “We hope to achieve peace soon, but when that is achieved we will also be there to offer support for reconstruction,” the German Foreign Ministry added.

The post-war recovery plan, named after US Secretary of State George W. Marshall, covered 16 countries, including Germany, according to the Marshall Foundation. Countries received nearly $ 13 billion in aid by 1951, which covered spending on food, fuel and machinery, and invested in rebuilding industry.
