The president of the Senate and Chamber, Rodrigo Pacheco and Arthur Lira, signed the promulgation of the PEC dos Precatórios on Thursday afternoon (16), four months after it was presented by the government.
The second round vote on the main text of the PEC was concluded on Wednesday afternoon (15) by 332 votes in favour, 141 against and 1 abstention.
The proposal provides for an annual limit for the payment of court orders — debts of the Union, states and municipalities determined by the Courts – and makes room for R$ 43.8 billion in the Union Budget to spend in 2022.
The PEC is the government’s main strategy to pay for Brazil Aid next year.
“The efforts of senators and deputies and their teams led to the agreement and enactment of this important matter. This matter makes income transfer programs for the poorest a matter for the State, as they become part of the federal constitution”, said Lira.
