Listener by profession

True, sometimes we would need even just a person to listen to us: no psychotherapy, no advice. Only he was there to hear what we have to say. Whether it’s a business project, whether it’s love difficulties, whether it’s a life-changing idea… Even just talking about it helps to put ideas in order.

And that’s how “Camera d’ascolto” was born, a portal where you book a session to sit there and talk, sure that someone will listen to us: “It’s not that we don’t interact at all”, he explains Stefania Leoni, one of the founders, together with Samanta Maccanti and Attilio Leoni: “Of course if we are asked some questions we answer, but we have no pretensions to heal or to give solutions.”

So – immediate question – what is the use? «It is useful, it is necessary: by verbalizing people, they find solutions on their own, they become clear, sometimes they simply cheer up…».

The operation is simple: you choose from the three available listeners, look at the calendar and book an hour. You pay in advance by credit card or paypal (25 euros per hour) and nothing, we start talking.

There is a double option: either a video call or a «normal» phone call.

«We would like to clarify that it is not a friend phone nor a coaching meeting. We put ourselves there to listen, suspending any form of judgment, in the most total privacy, guaranteed in writing. In today’s society, where we are all in a hurry and unfortunately less and less inclined to devote time to listening, thelistener by profession it fills a void that Covid has now further expanded. Professor Byung-Chul Han, professor of Philosophy at the Universität der Künste in Berlin and our inspirer explains it very well: “Listening invites the other to speak, opens the space to him for his otherness” ».

But who usually uses this service? “70% are women who wish to tell their experiences, their dreams or their projects. But there are also men, who are more interested in talking about professional aspects or relationships with friends, while some prefer to talk about couple relationships. When a person tells us what happened to him or what he would like it to happen, we notice that every time after a few minutes he begins to calm down and see the situation with more clarity and lucidity. Telling another person what happens to us helps to gain greater awareness. Somehow, the person begins to see the situation with greater objectivity or at least with more detachment. This is an indispensable premise to face life better, making the best decisions ».
