Lithuania calls on its citizens to leave Belarus

The Government of Lithuania advises its citizens to avoid traveling to Belarus and to those in Belarusian territory to leave immediately.

At the same time, the Minister of Transport of Lithuania announced that all flights to and from the airports of Lithuania should bypass the airspace of Belarus, as broadcast by APE-MPE. Marius Squadis clarified that the measure will take effect from 03.00 on Tuesday.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Foreign Minister Gabriel Lantsbergis said Belarus’ action reflected the deteriorating security situation in the region.

For his part, the Minister of Transport stated that the airlines Lot, Wizzair, Airbaltic are already voluntarily avoiding the airspace of Belarus.

The Cypriot airline Avia Solutions Group based in Lithuania will no longer use the airspace of Belarus, the company announced.

“The main priorities of our companies are flight safety and passenger safety, so our group companies ζουν change the route of their flights and will bypass Belarus airspace,” a group spokesman said.

In Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Matthew Morawiecki said he would propose suspending all flights from Belarus to the European Union.
