Lithuanian court sentenced an 83 -year -old man to eight and a half years in prison, judging the guilty of espionage on behalf of Russia. The man, who has Lithuanian and Russian citizenship, was found guilty of forwarding information to Russia’s military intelligence service for a number of years for money, stressed the regional court in Siaulia. The 83 -year -old was arrested in January 2024, but authorities announced his arrest at the end of last year to complete the investigation of the case. According to the court, authorities found the arrested spy equipment. While the defendant admitted that he was forwarding unregulated information, he denied that they were intended for Russian secret services. Lithuania, a member of the European Union and NATO, borders the Russian enclave Kaliningrad and Belarus, a close ally of Moscow.
