Lithuanian President Gitana Nauseda said today that he called on NATO to strengthen the Alliance’s presence in the Baltic region by adding more troops and equipment.
In a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, Nauseda said Baltic air defenses needed to be improved and that the deployment of additional troops “is vital to the existing security framework,” the presidency said in a statement.
“NATO must strengthen security in the Baltic region by adding troops, weapons systems and military equipment to its existing forces there,” Nauseda said.
The Lithuanian government announced today that it will ask the prosecutors of the International Criminal Court to investigate the possibility of committing “war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine”.
“New material is coming in every day, but we have enough so far to submit the request,” Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonite told a cabinet meeting that was televised.
