Little girl finds fossil of giant shark extinct for millions of years in the US

A little girl named Molly found the fossil of a tooth belonging to a megalodon – a species of giant shark that became extinct about two million years ago – on Christmas Day, in Maryland, in the United States.

The girl’s mother, Alicia Bruce Sampson, posted on Facebook on Dec. 25 explaining that her two daughters had asked for thermally insulated, waterproof clothing as a Christmas present so they could look for shark teeth in the sea “like a pro.” ”.

The family went to the beach the same day and found a dozen shark teeth, in addition to the huge megalodon fossil.

“I’m sure Molly is feeling like this is the best Christmas ever,” Molly’s mother’s post reads. “Thanks to the clothes she got the best part of the present!”

They took the tooth to the Calvert Marine Museum, where the team of paleontologists identified it as belonging to a megalodon.
