Liudmyla: “My heart breaks for abandoning my family in Ukraine”

«It breaks my heart, I feel I have abandoned my family in Ukraine. I had to do this for my daughter. She is only one and a half years old and I am afraid for her life and for her health. This war kills many civilians, many women, many children. I don’t know what the world is waiting for to react ». Liudmyla Oryshchuk she is Ukrainian, married to an Italian and has lived in Switzerland for seven years. She had planned to return to her husband on February 25, her flight was fixed, after spending the winter with her parents. She couldn’t do it because of the Russian attack.

With his sister he decided to go to the border. “We took documents and money, my sister with her family and I with my daughter. There were 10 kilometers of queue at customs ». In 12 hours they only covered two kilometers with the car. “I then decided to cross it on foot. With my daughter I walked seven kilometers and then queued for hours. They helped me and let me pass because I had the baby in my arms. There they were mostly mothers and children, “she says.

Since February 26 it is in Poland. «I am waiting for my sister and my niece trying to go through customs, but it is more and more difficult because more and more people arrive. There are many foreigners who try to leave the country. They make it even harder ».

The thought always goes back to the parents who remained in Ukraine. “They’ve already bombed near my city. My parents go out of the house whenever the sirens sound. You hear the guns, it’s so scary. People are afraid. We must be united and fight. Nobody helps us and we are alone“.
