The management of the LiveCoin exchange, which was hacked in December 2020, announced the closure of the site. The funds remaining at the disposal of LiveCoin will be paid to users.
The official statement emphasizes that the investigation of the hack is in an active phase. The LiveCoin management brings its deepest apologies to all users, but the damage caused to the site by cybercriminals was too serious:
“Our service suffered significant technical and financial damage. It is not possible to restore the work, so we decided to close the project and pay the remaining funds to the clients. ”
To receive compensation, users need to send an application to [email protected] and go through the verification procedure. The collection of applications will take place until March 17, 2021. You can send an application only from the mailbox to which the account was registered on the exchange.
In conclusion, representatives of LiveCoin warned that there are a large number of fake groups on various social networks and messengers, allegedly being the official groups of the exchange. However, the site does not have groups in any services, and all information is available exclusively on the exchange website.
“Do not send money to anyone under any pretext. You do not need to pay anything to receive a refund from us, you only need to submit an application and follow the instructions received, ”the statement says.
As a reminder, the LiveCoin exchange was closed on December 25. The attack was carried out on the night of December 23-24, after which the exchange lost control of all its servers and infrastructure. After that, the official website of the exchange moved to the livecoin.news domain.
