Actress Liz Sheridan, a veteran of theater and film, who played Jerry Seinfeld’s mother, Helen, in “Seinfeld”, died on Friday (15). The death was confirmed by his manager and friend Amanda Hendon to CNN.
Sheridan celebrated her 93rd birthday earlier this week, Hendon said. She leaves her daughter and son-in-law.
Although she had dozens of film appearances, Liz was best known as the loving mother of Seinfeld, a comedy that ran for nine seasons. She also appeared as the eavesdropping neighbor Mrs. Ochmonek on the sitcom “ALF”.
A trained dancer, Liz made her Broadway debut in 1971 in “Frank Merriwell” and appeared in several other productions, including the musical “Happy End” starring Meryl Streep in 1977, until focusing primarily on film and TV from the 1970s onwards. from 1980.
Liz was also an author and wrote the autobiographical “Dizzy & Jimmy” about her relationship with a young, rookie James Dean, when the two were aspiring Broadway performers. At the time of her death, she was working on turning the book into a movie, Hendon said.
Liz’s death comes two weeks after the death of “Seinfeld” co-star Estelle Harris, who played George Costanza’s mother on the series.
