Liz Truss: Recession ‘not inevitable’

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss argues, in an interview she gave to The Sun newspaper and published today, that the recession is “not inevitable” and that it is possible to “seize opportunities”.

“We hear very often that there will be a recession,” Trass says, adding, “I don’t think it’s inevitable.” “We can take opportunities here in the UK,” he points out.

Liz Truss is emerging in the polls as the heavy favorite against former finance minister Rishi Sunak to succeed Boris Johnson as the leader of the Conservative Party and as prime minister.

As she says, she aspires to lead a “revolution for small businesses and freelancers.” And he overstates it, saying: “Why shouldn’t the next Google or the next Facebook come from Britain? Why shouldn’t it be a British company?”

Truss is promising huge tax cuts, while her rival in the race to succeed Boris Johnson wants to first reduce the inflation that is crippling British households.

Conservative Party members have until September 2 to choose their new leader by postal vote. Boris Johnson’s successor is expected to be announced on September 5.
