Liz Truss: The world will be safer after the death of the leader of al-Qaeda

British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said today that the world will be safer after the death of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri in a US airstrike in Afghanistan.

“The world will be safer after the successful US operation against Ayman al-Zawahri,” the foreign secretary and candidate for British prime minister said in a post on Twitter.

The al Qaeda leader was on the balcony of his home in Kabul when a US drone fired two missiles at him.

The United States does not have DNA confirmation of Ayman al-Zawahri’s death, but has verified the victim’s identity through other sources, according to White House National Security Adviser John Kirby.
