Lizzo stated that he is not giving up on the music industry. The 35-year-old star caused a stir last week when she reportedly hinted that she would quit her career entirely after claiming she was “tired of getting tripped up by everyone in her life.”
However, in a social media post, the star explained that she actually wanted to stop paying attention to “negativity.”
“When I say 'I gave up,' I mean I stopped paying attention to any negative energy. What I won't give up is the joy of my life, which is making music… which is connecting with people. Because I know I'm not alone. By no means am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive one,” Lizzo began in a video posted on her social media.
“If I can give one person the inspiration or motivation to stand up for themselves and say that they've stopped letting the negative people win, the criticism win, that would be better than expected. That being said, I’m going to move on… keep being me,” she added.
The singer – whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson – recently claimed that she was struggling with criticism about her work on the internet and just wanted to make others “happy” with her music.
“I'm tired of putting up with being tripped up by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than I found it. But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it. I'm not going to submit to this s***, I give up!'', she said.
In August 2023, three former dancers filed a lawsuit against the singer, claiming they were subjected to a hostile work environment and harassment while they were members of Lizzo's dance team.
At the time, she was removed from the list of options to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show because of the accusations.
In her statement, the artist regretted having her professional ethics questioned, stating that the allegations are false and come from former employees, fired after bad behavior during the tour.
