Locals rise up against tourists in Majorca – They are “chasing” them from the beaches

Locals are organizing against tourists in Majorca, kicking foreigners off the beaches as the cost of living has risen dramatically due to over-tourism. According to a report in the Daily Mail newspaper, more than a total of 200 activists descended on the popular Caló des Moro cove, to take it over from tourists. Characteristically, the impact of mass tourism on Caló des Moro results in six tons of sand disappearing from the bay every three months, while 70 kilograms disappear daily in towels and shoes. There was also a sit-in on the said beach, with banners reading “Ocupem Les Nostres Platges”, which translates as “Let’s Occupy/Occupy Our Beaches”, with locals blaming foreigners for driving up property prices by 250% in a decade, while stagnant wages remain among the lowest in Spain.
