One of the locks on the Montezum roller coaster, at the Hopi Hari theme park, in Vinhedo (SP), broke loose with the toy in motion last Saturday (11). The attraction had its operation suspended. Nobody got hurt.
This Monday (13), Hopi Hari confirmed that there was a “technical stop around 17:40” and that the security protocol was initiated until “all visitors were disembarked and the toy seats inspected”.
Images circulating on social networks show that, before the first “fall” of the roller coaster, one of the passengers holds something — which would be the seat lock — with the toy in motion. It is also possible to observe other visitors with their arms raised in an “X” sign.
According to Hopi Hari, the “X” sign, with arms raised above the head, is part of the protocol used in all attractions in the park when, for some reason, the visitor requests the toy stop.
“Despite the technical stop that took place on Saturday, December 11, on the roller coaster (Montezum), the Hopi Hari Theme Park informs that, right after the beginning of the cycle, still at the beginning of the attraction’s first climb, the visitor signaled the need to stop, making the ‘X’ sign with the arms above the head, immediately, the team responsible for the operation suspended the cycle, and began analyzing the occurrence,” he said in a note.
After the incident, the attraction was closed and only returned to operation “normally”, according to the park, the next day. According to the note published by Hopi Hari, in addition to the lock, there is a seat belt. Nobody got hurt.
“On the part in question, Hopi Hari highlights that it uses original parts, follows the attraction manufacturer’s manuals and guidelines and will share this occurrence with him, in search of improvements in the process. Therefore, the park reiterates its commitment to act with transparency and responsibility and bring the best experience to its audience.”
Acidente no Hopi Hari
This is not the first time an incident has occurred at the Hopi Hari theme park. In 2012, a 14-year-old teenager died after falling from the toy known as La Tour Eiffel.
Due to a problem with the lock, at the moment when the toy that provided a free fall to visitors, the girl fell from the “elevator” which was almost 70 meters high. She came to be rescued, but did not resist the injuries.
Almost 10 years after the accident, the attraction still hasn’t started working again.
