Lockdown in Shanghai: Coronavirus scares – Measures extended

Although authorities in China’s financial capital initially took more lenient measures to avoid economic problems, they imposed a lockdown last week as they struggled to cope with the epidemic.

At least 38,000 health workers have been sent to the city from other parts of China, with state media reporting the largest nationwide medical operation in the country since the lockdown in Wuhan in early 2020.

Late Monday, local authorities announced that from today, more restrictions will be imposed on public transport, with the suspension of the operation of other metro lines.

Thousands of Shanghai residents have been sent to “central quarantine” facilities after testing positive for covid-19, whether they show symptoms or not.

Citizens continued to express concern about the draconian measures taken in the city and to post videos on social media.
