Logical thinking and algorithmics: 7 games to improve these skills

In programming, logic and understanding how algorithms work is very important. Without them, it will be very difficult to cope with the task. Fortunately, there are games that are designed to develop and improve logical thinking and algorithms. It is especially good that such games are available not only on PCs, but also on smartphones that we carry everywhere, including minibuses, subways and trains. So while there is free time, you can study the algorithms and break your brains in the games below.

NeuroNation

A comprehensive application designed to improve various abilities, including memory and logical thinking. Games from the “Attention” section, although they are set to improve attentiveness and concentration, at the same time help to understand the algorithms – this is due to the set conditions in which certain sequences of actions are given with their “if” and “otherwise”. The section devoted to logical thinking consists of 6 games. The difficulty of each puzzle gradually increases as you progress, along with adding new conditions and objects. When time runs out or a player makes too many mistakes, statistics appear that allow you to track progress and encourage you to compete with other users. NeuroNation is free, but has a paid subscription that unlocks additional features, new exercises, and more detailed reports.

brain dots

The gameplay, like the graphics, is very simple. All you have to do is push the blue and pink balls into each other. To do this, just draw one or more lines. But although it sounds simple, it is actually much more complicated. Each level is built uniquely and has its own obstacles, whether it’s a gap between the platforms or a tall triangle between the balls. Everything is complicated by local physics: after drawing the first line, the balls and the player’s line fall. At the same time, they will fall into the void, if the developers did not leave the platform under them. So in addition to drawing lines, you need to take care of observing the rules of game physics. After successfully connecting the balls, the player receives coins, for which you can then buy a new brush, colored pencil or other art material. This choice allows you to diversify the levels and go through them in new, previously inaccessible ways.

That Level Again

There is only one task in That Level Again: complete the level. Each time the location remains the same, the scenery does not change in any way, unlike the passage option. For the first time, you just need to become a character on the big red button. Another time you need to press the button with your finger, the third time you have to put up with incomprehensible controls, and in the future you will have to think about the sequence of your actions that will help open the impregnable door. Logic will have to be used to the maximum, and the lack of time limits allow you to calmly think about the passage endlessly. Hints are present, but they are as implicit as the level names. Total game has 98 levels unique walkthroughs. If this is not enough, then there are 3 more games that are a continuation of That Level Again.

Lightbot

In LightBot, the player controls a robot that needs to get to the blue stoves and set them on fire. The control takes place with the help of special buttons, meaning turns, jump, step forward and other actions. The player must look at the provided field and collect the correct algorithm of actions that will allow the robot to light all the tiles. Over time, processes and cycles will appear. The game has simple and nice graphics that can be observed over 20 levels. In the paid version of the game, the number of levels has been increased to 50.

Logic Dots

Logic Dots is a mix of sudoku and sea battle. The gameplay is very simple: you need to place dots on the field in accordance with the specified conditions. The game has several levels of difficulty and sets of levels related to the number of fields. The further the player goes on one set, the more difficult it becomes to find a solution, and the increased number of rows and columns causes complications. In addition to the development of logic, the game also slightly affects the algorithms, gradually adding new conditions to the fields, such as changing the rules for placing points or areas that have their own properties and cannot be moved, created already at the beginning of the level. There is no time limit in the game, there is no move counter, and in case of complications there are always hints.

Make it true

According to the story, the player becomes an assistant engineer who needs to design, assemble and configure a robot. To do this, you need to give the right signal in order for the circuits to work. Make it True is inspired by the actual logic gates that chips are built on, allowing the player to understand the basics of circuitry. The gameplay is not too complicated: there is a value of 1 – true, and 0 – false. Depending on the number, the signal is either given or not. Gradually, new logical operators appear, such as “Not”, which complicate the signaling process. There is also a limit on the moves and a battery that is consumed when the level fails. As soon as it is completely discharged, the game will become unavailable for a while. Together, this improves the understanding and design of algorithms, and develops logical thinking. The game has more than a hundred different levels, which can be completed in several ways.

brain: code

In this game, you will have to use all the available logic and non-standard thinking. All actions are performed using code, although programming skills are not needed here. The tasks in brain:code are very diverse, while some may seem very easy, others will force you to build an algorithm of actions, and to solve the third you will need to exit the game and get into the Internet, because it is in it that the solution to the puzzle is located. And no, this is not about YouTube channels with problem solutions, but about Google maps, Wikipedia and the game page on Google Play. The developers stuffed the game with tips to make it easier to pass: they are in the transition between levels, in the text and drawings that make up the task, but if everything is really bad, then you can go to paid tips.
