In this edition of Lollapalooza, which started on Friday (24), several sustainability actions were prepared to raise public awareness about the importance of correct waste disposal and promoting recycling.
For the second consecutive year, the festival has a partnership with Braskem, which installed a stand for the collection of plastic waste that will later be recycled.
To encourage correct disposal, the public accumulates points for each discarded plastic item and can exchange them for gifts. In the 2022 edition, 130,000 plastic objects were collected. The expectation for this year is to increase the volume.
“People are eager to connect, meet, enjoy. They come to the festival with a different perspective on sustainability. This is growing. The expectation is that this year we will achieve much more than last year”, says Ana Laura Sivieri, Marketing director at Braskem.
This Friday afternoon (24th), the brand’s stand showed that 50,000 plastic waste had already been collected in a few hours of the festival.
The number had the collaboration of mechanical technician Gustavo Henrique. He reported to CNN who got a gift cup and card holder after collecting cups she found around the festival.
“I collected 115 cups. We were picking up what we found on the ground, asking the guys”, she said.
“The idea is to raise awareness that once you dispose of plastic correctly, it comes back to you as a benefit. It is the idea that we want people to take into their lives”, added Ana Laura.
Along the entire lawn of the racetrack, the public also had several specific bins for the disposal of recyclable material. On the first day of the event, the team from CNN saw few packages and disposables on the floor.
Another brand that is focused on sustainability within the event is Coca-Cola, which, while distributing pet beverage bottles at its stand, guides the disposal at Braskem’s collection points.
Throughout the entire festival, the action should distribute –and expects to recover through collection and separation– 12,000 mini pets, 532,000 glasses of water and 100,000 plastic cups.
Pets were distributed while people danced on the stand’s internal dance floor.
“It is part of the initiatives that we have in our commitment to zero the impact of packaging by 2030. We believe that these great festivals are an opportunity to connect with the public, generating education about the circular economy”, said the head of Coca-Cola Brazil ESG, Katielle Haffner, in an interview with CNN .
