Lollapalooza 2024: after rain, mud takes place on the lawn on the second day

The public at Autódromo de Interlagos watched, this Saturday (23), as mud took the place that used to be occupied by grass.

After the rain that fell relentlessly on Friday (22), the first day of the eleventh edition of Lollapalooza, those who arrived early at the festival found mud and many mud puddles. The areas connecting the Budweiser stage to the Samsung and Alternative stages are the most affected.

Speaking to CNN, Rio de Janeiro architect Giovana Costa, 26, said she had no problem facing rain at festivals, but complained about the excess mud.

“The mud turns everything into chaos. There is a lot of mud, a lot of puddles, this can lead to accidents, people falling. Not only does it make everyone dirty, it also leaves your shoes wet,” she complained.

She asked the festival organizers to increase the number of plastic signs, already present in some places at the event, to try to alleviate the problem.

“There could be some preparation. There are these signs that they try to put on the path, but there is one catch: everything is a path. These signs help a lot”, he suggested, citing the Espanta festival, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro, as a reference.

“A preparation on the grass and these signs would improve the lives of those who come to the festival by 100%. The ticket is not cheap,” she said.

Doctors Kaendra Camargo, 27, and Arissa Hashimoto, 29, will be at the three-day festival and wore white sneakers on Saturday afternoon. The first told CNN that she was fooled by the weather forecast and did not prepare to wear more suitable footwear to face the mud.

“I didn’t bring another [calçado]. I came from out of state, looked at the forecast, said it was hot, brought sneakers and sandals. And it rained,” explained Kaendra.

Her colleague Arissa chose to repeat yesterday's sneakers so as not to get more than one pair of sneakers dirty with the mud that dominates the Autódromo.

“I'm using the same one as yesterday and I'm going to use the same one for the three days, until Sunday”, he confessed.

The mud, despite raising concerns about the safety of movement, did not discourage the duo.

“We slipped a few times there, but it didn't hurt to enjoy the show. It’s expected, even”, concluded Kaendra.
