Lollapalooza Brasil announces new attraction for 2023 edition; meet WILLOW

Lollapalooza Brasil announced, this Thursday (17), a new attraction for the 2023 edition of the festival – scheduled for March 24, 25 and 26, at the Interlagos Circuit, in São Paulo.

The singer WILLOW will make her first visit to Brazil on the Sunday of the festival, the 26th, which will be headlined by Canadian rapper Drake.

Tickets are on sale through this link and, for just one day, they cost from R$660 for half price.

Daughter of the actor couple Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, WILLOW, who has just turned 22 years old, already has a handful of discography with five authorial albums mostly well received by international critics.

The musical career has the starting point in 2010, when she, with only 9 years old, sang the hit “Whip My Hair”. Born in 2000, WILLOW is constantly referred to – for example, in the press release for Lollapalooza Brasil – as a “representative” or “icon” of generation-Z.

After the first hit, there was an artistic maturity until she released her first album, “Ardipithecus”, in 2015. From that point on, she edits two other albums biennially – “The 1st” (2017) and “Willow” (2019) .

In this first moment of her musical career, she wanders through experimental pop, soul and even R&B.

In a recent interview with British magazine Glamor, in September, she said that she “was trained to be an R&B singer, so she went in that direction. But she always had a great affinity for rock music”.

This is clear in her last two releases, “lately I feel EVERYTHING” (2021) and “” (2022), when she proposed to join the movement of artists – such as Machine Gun Kelly and even Olivia Rodrigo – who rescued pop punk references from the first decade of the 2000s.

WILLOW is one of the people most responsible for airing the genre, reinforcing the feeling echoed in the international and Brazilian press that there is a “revival” in emo and pop-punk.

The singer makes her references clear even through her partnerships. Travis Barker, drummer for Blink-182, who will also be at Lollapalooza Brasil next year, has several appearances on the 2021 album – including the single (listen below).

“I am so grateful for this song because it was created in a very introspective time (during the first few months of isolation from the pandemic). It was the song that proved to me that I needed to get rid of the insecurities I had about doing a project like this”, said WILLOW about “transparentsoul”. Singer Avril Lavigne has also recorded with WILLOW.

For the first time in Brazil, she will arrive with the tour of her most recent album, “”, released in early October. The disc continues her rock phase, but with greater comfort to walk within the genre, going to hard rock at certain times.

It is not yet known what time slot WILLOW will be on the Brazilian Lolla schedule, but the expectation is that it will be one of the highlights of the edition.

Blink 182, Billie Eilish and Drake

Lollapalooza Brasil will be headlined by the trio Blink-182, with the return of vocalist Tom DeLonge, in addition to singer Billie Eilish – both will come to Brazil for the first time. Canadian rapper Drake completes the trio of headliners.

Among the main attractions are singer Rosalía, who was recently in São Paulo for a sold-out show, and rapper Lil Nas X, who also arrives for an unprecedented performance in the country.
