British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss today summoned China’s ambassador to Britain, Zheng Zeguang, to explain Beijing’s actions towards Taiwan following the visit to the island by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Following the visit by Pelosi – the highest-ranking US official to the island in decades – China has moved ahead with the largest-scale military training centers around the self-governing island it claims as its territory.
“I have instructed officials to summon the Chinese ambassador to explain his country’s actions. We have observed increasingly aggressive behavior and rhetoric from Beijing in recent months, which threaten peace and stability in the region,” the statement said. Tras in her statement.
“The United Kingdom urges China to resolve any disputes by peaceful means, without the threat or use of force or coercion,” she added.
