London imposes sanctions on Abramovic’s Evraz

The British government announced today that it has imposed sanctions on the Russian steel production and mining company Evraz, in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

“The steelmaking and mining company operates in sectors that are of strategic importance to the Russian government,” the government said in a statement.

“The current freeze on assets means that no UK citizen or company can work with them,” the statement said.

Britain says Evraz produces 28% of Russia’s railway wheels and 97% of its railways in Russia, making the company vital as Russia uses its rail network to transport basic military supplies and troops to the front line. Ukraine.

Trading in Evraz shares has been suspended since March 10, when Britain imposed sanctions on Abramovich. The company announced on March 11 that 10 members of its board had resigned, leaving only the CEO.
