London is “monitoring very closely” any return of jihadists from Syria

British intelligence agencies are “watching very closely” any return of jihadists to Britain from Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad, the Border Security and Asylum Secretary said today. “Clearly, any possible return of jihadists is a matter of great concern, so we will be watching very carefully how the situation develops over the coming days and weeks,” minister Angela Eagle said when asked by the BBC. “Rest assured that the intelligence agencies are watching what is happening very closely and we are in contact with all our allies to see how things are developing,” he added. Europeans fear a possible revival of IS whose fighters remain active in Syria or imprisoned in Kurdish-controlled camps.
