London to Moscow: ‘Do not recognize Donetsk and Luhansk as independent’

Britain has said the Russian Duma’s request to Vladimir Putin to recognize the breakaway Ukrainian territories of Donetsk and Luhansk as independent shows “blatant disregard” for Moscow’s commitments to the peace process.

“If this request is accepted, it would be a further attack on Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, it would mark the end of the Minsk process and it would demonstrate Russia’s decision to choose the path of confrontation instead of dialogue,” he said on Thursday. British Foreign Secretary Liz Trace.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on Wednesday criticized the move by Russian lawmakers to recognize the two Russian-backed breakaway regions as independent.
