Lorella Boccia: “The mother I’ll be”

Dancer, presenter and, once only, actress. Lorella Boccia, whose television success is due, in large part, to the foresight of Maria De Filippi, who saw in her a clear possibility of success, has spent the last ten years of her life navigating the most disparate commitments. Then, in the categorical refusal of a label that can certify its unique belonging to a single category, he decided to undertake a complex challenge. Venus Club, which Italia1, from Thursday 6 May, will be broadcasting in its second evening, has set out to bring something like what Ellen DeGeneres did overseas within national borders.

«It is a provocation: it is broadcast on a purely male network, talking about women with other women. The idea, however, is to address an audience that is also made up of men, ”explained Boccia, who in the debut episode chose to have Elettra Lamborghini and Yole Signorelli alongside, the incarnation of opposite models of femininity. “Ironically, I like to call this program ‘sexist’. I want to be on the side of women and guests, with the lightness, however, of those who have learned to reject any etiquette and moral judgment ». Venus Club, therefore, you are bet with Mara Maionchi and Iva Zanicchi as commentators, does not want to be an ego-related living room, where a part of humanity – a niche, one would say – can talk about itself with itself, but a point of inspiration and comparison, regulated by a thrust, amusing and amused, to the ‘integration.

Venus Club, in the Italian television economy, it will be the first entirely female late show. How to prevent, however, the risk of a trite rhetoric?
«I think it is right to pay due attention, but the program is a late show and a talk show, which aims to entertain, make people laugh and reflect. With this format, we would like to celebrate women in all their nuances, also recounting their fragility ».

How did you select the stories to tell within the show?
“We started work on the program last November, in the midst of the pandemic. There were virtual meetings and the organization of Plans-B. We did not know what awaited us in 2021. We therefore tried to choose stories from the artistic world in its entirety, stories of famous women and others, who deserve to be. During the episodes, among others, we will have Alessandra Amoroso, Diletta Leotta, Anna Tatangelo ».

What is the common denominator of the selected stories?
«They are all strong and accomplished women, who can tell about themselves by providing a positive starting point for those who should look at them and listen to them. They know how to bring out the best, and I, for my part, will try to get them a few smiles, a provocation ».

What do you think are the most urgent topics to be addressed, within a format such as Venus Club?
«The courage to be free and strong women, happy with who we are. I am not speaking only of physical security, of a liberalization of the aesthetic data. I’m talking about the ability to embrace what lives deep inside each of us. We will therefore try to address personal topics, love stories and career paths, things that can bring to the public hints of the female universe that are still little known. “

Why the choice of two regular commentators, Mara Maionchi and Iva Zanicchi, already seen in other programs?
“It was an authorial, precise and conscious decision. We wanted to allow two well-known women to meet on television, perhaps for the first time. And the meeting was explosive. Mara and Iva are the queens of the program, they are allowed everything ».

What is the significance of a program like this, carried out in an era – that of the health emergency – which seems to have annihilated every attempt at experimentation?
«It means so much to be there, because Venus Club it does not represent a new beginning for me, but an opportunity for everyone. The pandemic has hit the entertainment industry hard, music in the lead. We were able to bring an audience, guests and a band back to the studio, all in compliance with health regulations ».

With Venus Club back to Mediaset. How difficult it was, professionally, to affirm her identity without her husband’s surname (Niccolò Presta, ed) was a prejudice to others?
“Prejudices are part of our work. Fortunately, there are those who know how to go further and this program, Venus Club, with this return to Mediaset, for me it represents a new beginning. The road is still long, there is still a long way to go, but I believe that study and perseverance can support me. I want to get involved, even making a mistake, to get up stronger than before ».

How did you manage the new professional commitment and the advancement of the pregnancy, announced via social media a few weeks ago?
“I didn’t know I was pregnant until the end of the recordings. I think I found out the day after the last take. It would have been wonderful to face this work with the awareness of being two, but in part I still think that it happened ».

Chiara Ferragni, Alice Campello, Beatrice Valli are providing, in Italy, a new model of motherhood, something that says that no one is forced to choose between family and work. Have you already thought about how to deal with the period following the birth of the baby?
«Today, the figure of the woman, and with her of the mother, has changed, has evolved. Chiara and the others are proof of how strong this change is, and I like them infinitely. For my part, I want to try to be a mother, including mistakes, understanding and close to my daughter. I hope to be able to be at least half of what my mother was “.

On Instagram, we see a lot of his private. What is the boundary between what it shows and what it keeps for itself?
“I show what I think is right to show, I keep it to myself so much. I don’t live my life in relation to social networks, the balance of power is the opposite. I don’t want to be too dependent on these platforms, sometimes I appear more, sometimes less. I believe that life is beyond the camera, and mine is full of normal things that often clash with what is expected from social networks ».

Her mother called her Lorella, like Cuccarini, and the name turned out to be prophetic. Any idea what name she’ll give her baby girl?
“I often think about it, you know. We still don’t know what to call it. We have come to the conclusion that perhaps the best thing is to wait for it to be born, look it in the eye and only then call it by its name ».

To date, he has conducted, participated in talent, made films. What awaits you in the future?
«Everything and still a lot. Despite from my first entry into the school of Friends ten years have passed, I feel that every beginning brings with it something new. To Friends, I started, I continued and cultivated my dreams. I did it first as a competitor, then as a professional, then as a presenter. Friends it is family and I believe it will always be. I’ve never acted, except for a little experience in Step Up, but who knows, who knows ».
