Louisiana legislators adopted a resolution of the House of Representatives of the state on the creation of a new committee, which will study the influence of artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain and cryptocurrencies on the laws and economics of the state.

The resolution was represented by a member of the House of Representatives Mark Wright and adopted during the regular session of 2025. A special legislative subcommittee under the Committee of the House of Trade Representatives should begin work no later than September 1, 2025. He will collect information and communicate directly with experts to understand the risks and advantages of using the latest technologies.

The group should organize open events at which technical specialists, business owners, teachers, students and even ordinary users can attend. At these events, people will exchange experience so that each participant can speak out and offer their ideas on using digital assets. The target group will also consider the possibility of launching pilot programs for testing blockchain and cryptocurrencies at the state level.

The subcommitative is obliged to submit a full report by February 1, 2026. It should have explanations of how AI, blockchain and cryptocurrencies are used in Louisiana, and how other American states use these technologies. The resolution implies that researchers will study the risks of cybersecurity, confidentiality problems and economic capabilities in the Web3 sector. Issues will also be considered issues related to increasing the knowledge of the population about the latest technologies. The group should also provide recommendations on security measures and clarify whether in Louisiana new laws governing the safe use of blockchain and digital assets in everyday life.

Five years ago, Louisiana lawmakers began preparing a bill on licensing cryptocurrency companies, and last year the state began to accept cryptocurrencies to pay for public services. The first payment in bitcoins was accepted by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
