“Love scam”: man is arrested for “emotional fraud” in Bahia

The Special Police Station for Women’s Assistance in Feira de Santana, in the interior of Bahia, arrested, on Wednesday (30), a 36-year-old man suspected of embezzlement against a woman.

The suspect, who presented himself as a refrigeration technician on dating apps, was arrested on Avenida Homero Figueiredo, in the Gabriela neighborhood. According to the police, he claimed at least 12 victims in Bahia, mainly in Salvador.

According to the Bahia Civil Police, the victim met the man through an app and became romantically involved with him for two months.

During the relationship, the suspect claimed to be facing financial problems and, with the intention of helping him, the woman authorized the sale of his television.

Furthermore, the suspect sold the victim’s air conditioning unit without her authorization.

“The man has several police records for embezzlement, theft and embezzlement. The prisoner is at the disposal of the Judiciary,” the police explained in a statement.

The man had already been the target of at least 12 recorded incidents, mainly in Salvador, where his attacks were more frequent.

However, it was the case in Feira de Santana that resulted in his arrest, after a 48-year-old trader reported the fraud.
