Luca’s father hit by a tram in Milan: “We found ourselves embraced by the whole city”

The death of Luca Marengoni, the 14-year-old hit by a tram in Milan last November 8, hit the city and also the rest of Italy. The boy was hit while cycling to school. The father read a message that moved everyone at his son’s funeral: «Everyone will remember you. Now you’re gone, we’ve only had you with us for 14 years. In these years you have sown so much that we have found ourselves embraced by the whole city of Milan, which you loved and lived. Everyone is here for you. We know that you have left a light in all of us and that we will have the strength to re-emerge from the black hole into which we are now guided by your luminosity”.

«We admired your imagination, your ability to see things from another point of view, your depth, any of your choices was the result of an in-depth study, from the shirt to the song, from the choice of school to that of the bicycle. Just that bike now mangled. We loved your sensitivity for environmental issues, when you decided to participate in environmental events, to devote yourself to the care of trees, to fight the waste of energy and water. We admired your ability to cultivate friendships, wherever you went, here and in Policoro».

«We will not see you again, we will not see you grow, you will not be physically with us at the table. Mom will no longer wake you up in the morning, she won’t hear you complaining, we won’t see you circulating around the house with headphones on, having a pillow war with Enrico, hugging and arguing with him and above all we won’t be amazed at you anymore, because you were able to amaze us. Amaze us with your ability to welcome the most fragile children, you have shown this since the first years of school. We admired you, we admired your autonomy in studying, you were very brilliant and you wanted to achieve your goals. The last one was learning new words because the Italian teacher had pointed it out to you in a class assignment. We admired your ability to understand people, to seek lessons from those you thought could give you something, regardless of age, ethnicity, religion. Your respect was not due to the teacher’s authority but to her ability to improve yourself.’

«With this ray of light, indeed Luke’s ray, we will be able to break down all the barriers and make all your dreams come true for you. Hi Luca. Mum, dad, Enrico».

The 14-year-old’s parents have invited those who wish to make a symbolic act to remember Luca to donate to Legambiente Lombardia, which will use the funds for the planting of trees. The details for the donation are: Legambiente Lombardia OnlusIBAN IT10 F050 1801 6000 0001 1024 700 at Banca Etica, specifying the subject: donation for Luca Marengoni.
