The Lufthansa airline will cancel “almost all” of its flights to Germany tomorrow due to the ground staff strike, the company announced.
More than 130,000 passengers on almost 1,000 flights to and from the two main hubs of Frankfurt and Munich are affected by this development, as the German company clarified a day after the Verdi union announced the strike as part of wage negotiations.
The union has called a strike from 03.45 (04.45 Greek time) on Wednesday to 06.00 (07.00 Greek time) Thursday morning to “increase pressure” on management while demanding a 9.5% wage increase.
The strike will concern ground staff, mainly maintenance services, but also aircraft towing vehicle operators, who are essential to the smooth running of the airport.
Lufthansa will thus have to cancel a total of 678 flights to Frankfurt and 345 to Munich, including 47 for today for the two main hubs in Germany.
“The impact of the strike may lead to cancellations and delays on Thursday and Friday,” the company said.
